My safety outfit/ 'almost summer' outfit
Updated: May 25
When in doubt, wear a white button down and jeans. It's super timeless, but can be updated or styled in countless ways depending on little details. This particular shirt I thrifted back in January, and I had the intention of selling it on Poshmark because it was gorgeous, in perfect condition, but sadly not my size. Then I got curious, tried it on and LOVED the beachy look that the oversized top gave.
It's a brand I really like, "Splendid". Their pieces are effortlessly elegant and comfortable basics that can be dressed up or down depending on how they are styled. In particular, I love the texture of the fabric in this top which I would almost describe as 'gauzy' and reminds me of a beach cover up. The buttons have a 'mother of pearl' sheen to them. I'm a sucker for beachy details! I like to dress like I'm on vacation, most of the time. Anyways, I thrifted the top from Value Village for $8.99. Great deal seeing as retail price would have been approximately $125.00.
I've paired the top with jeans that get the most wear in my 'off duty' time: my One Teaspoon freebirds. They were not thrifted, they were gifted. The shoes are Kate Spade saddie slip ons and I thrifted them last year from Value Village for $9.99. Retail price was $225.
Pretty much BNWT (thrifting acronym: brand new without tags) except for some pretty heavy scuffing along the rubber. Any thrifter or clean sneaker enthusiast knows that the Mr. Clean magic eraser is your best ally for squeaky clean shoes! A quick scrub and they looked brand new!
Typically, I'm not a fan of slip on sneakers. I have narrow feet and I don't find them comfortable because my ankle always slips in the back making for nasty blisters. I also don't like the look of seeing any no-show sock peeking out. These fit like a dream (the leather is buttery soft) and the perforated leather pattern allows for the foot to breath making socks unnecessary. The gold colour goes with everything. I almost always get a compliment when I wear them. They are one of my very favorite thrift scores. Happy thrifting!
